301: Fundraising for Small Nonprofits

Course Duration

8-12 contact hours, 2-3 hour per lesson.

Participant Applicability

This course is designed for a pod of 6-9 small-medium organisations
represented by 2-3 mid-senior level staff each. Total group size: 12-27

Teaching Methodology

Facilitated/anchored virtual classroom. Direct instruction, participatory, inquiry-based learning with collective and individual projects including readings, case studies, videos, reflections, group discussions & exercises.

Course Description

This course is designed for small-medium nonprofits who seek greater financial self-sufficiency as well as greater diversity in their funding sources.The course provides an overview of the current funding landscape, challenges and opportunities the basic insights  necessary in selecting the donors and markets best suited to your nonprofit and creating your fundraising strategy framework. On this framework, you will begin to create your own fundraising readiness assessment of your organisation and build a convincing case for financial support, work on the various ways of getting your message out and fielding the response. Create a fundraising process and an action plan that efficiently uses your time and existing resources to achieve your fundraising goals.

Grading

Grades will be determined primarily through the development of the student-fundraiser’s IDP – Individual Development Plan that includes inputs from the following:

  • Pre-module assessment.
  • Assignments & homework through the module.
  • Academic integrity, attendance, participation and submissions.
  • Completion of the Individual Development Plan (IDP)
  • Review of the above, along with the student, during the end-module assessment.

This course is offered in-person and virtually.
The class is scheduled for two days, both days 9–5
